    Still open, I guess only gerundt has access to file releases? I could help if I'd be added, I do this on some other sf-projects, too.

    Sorry, I have no access to the file releases. Only grimmdp, christianlist and kimmov have access.

    I guess Sf.net file release system has fooled me once again. I just don't get that interface. Old was unusable but at least there was some logic in it. This new interface is totally unpredictable.

    I have to guess which file to select as the whole filename is not shown. And I guess I've failed at that. I now chose different file, Maybe it helps.

    Release note selection

    I've attached a screenshot of the file release page when selecting release notes so you can see it yourselves...

    And seems I chose the wrong file again...

    Hmm. No matter which file I choose it always shows wrong release notes... I'm too bored to play with this.

    Yep, really good interface... but the new beta is even worse...
    Seems like a good time to offer my help again.
    If you want to do it yourself: Check that the release note (file property) in these directories are marked as "Release notes". Afterwards you'll have more than three options to choose and one of it will be the correct one.
    I suggest to change the folder names and either short "Experimental builds" to "SVN-Builds" or remove "(svn) from the subfolders. In both ways you'll see what you're doing.

    Yes, I've marked files as release notes. I don't know why only three files are shown though, Perhaps I haven't set release notes file for every release. But Ive set it for latest one (checked it several times earlier today). So it should be one of the selections..

    Our folder structure is what Sf.net conversion did for us when they updated the system. And I agree it needs to be rethought. I've had no time to even look at what is really possible and what is not. Somebody needs to read the docs and make a suggestion.

    I think we should look at the whole picture - what kinds of releases we are doing, what files they do contain etc. How long we keep them available.

    I'm open to suggestions. If you have ideas, please share them in forum or in -devel or -development mailing list.

    And if somebody is wanting to help (me) with reorganizing releases and helping with releases overall I really need more hands. Basically I'm offering some kind of "release manager" position here. If you are interested (Tim? Sf-Mench?) send me a message...

    Ok, make it "release manager role". Not sure if Sf.net has such role in their develoer classifications but we can at least document it and give privileges for the file release system.

    There are some roles like that in SF. At least for this one time stuff you can add me to the member list and give me the rights if you'd like to (but it seems only christianlist and grimmdp could add me because you've only the Developer-role).

    There is a lot possible for folder structure. I'd suggest to leave the numbers out and shorten the folders:

    Stable versions
    Documentation
    7-Zip plugin
    Beta versions
    SVN-builds\2.13.13\...
    Developer tools\Manual tools\...

    What do you think of that?

    If possible we should have a display name like "Stable versions" and a URL name like "stable".

    And what about "Documentation"? We stop using this folder since WinMerge 2.5/2.6. So we should be add "Old" or something?

    "Experimental builds" are longer as "SVN builds" but don't depend on a technic. What is, if we switch one day to Hg?

    And we should look, where we link to the current folders, since this links will be all broken after the change!

    * stable = Stable versions
    * beta = Beta versions
    * experimental = Experimental builds
    * 7-zip-plugin = 7-Zip plugin
    * dev-tools = Developer tools
    * old-docs = Old Documentation

    You're right with "svn", it shouldn't be included anywhere in the folder names.

    What you want is possible:
    I suggest to use your names (left) as folder names (they will be shown like the folder names are now in dark gray) and the right entries as label (will be seen to the right of the folder name in light grey) - see example at https://sourceforge.net/projects/tp-cobol-debugg/files/ (the brackets are not standard in labels but set by intend for this specific one).
    The (svn) should be removed in the subfolders of experimental.
    The old docs (they aren't so much) should be moved to the according stable versions folder (can be subfolders there if you like them to be).

    Do you change that or should I request (whom) via SF to let me join this project and change these things for you? I guess the change of the links will be done by you afterwards.

    I like the idea to move the docs files to the stable folders. And dropping "(svn)" from the experimental subfolders sounds good to.

    I would like to see the WinMerge team growing, so feel free to doing it. If Kimmo like it too, he will ask Dean or Christian for giving you permissions.

    I will look for the website...

    Not so fast... It is not useful to speculate about things when there are real and good reasons for why things are as they are. And as I said this discussion should continue on forums.

    So I started new discussion topic to Developers-forum: "f.net downloads -page restructuring":
    https://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/winmerge/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=268&start=0

    I've contacted our project admins so things are proceeding...

    I'm closing this as its been fixed a while ago. No need to wait for me (or somebody else to close tracker items) after they have been fixed as we have no formal verification here.
