Many times I need filenames and paths from folder
compare in other programs. I can copy them via context
menu, but using drag&drop would be faster.

I'd rather like to have the file(s) itself dropped:
For example: Drag a file from WinMerge and drop it to a mail client for the file(s) being attached.

Maybe it would be possible to drag'n'drop the file if [SHIFT] was pressed and the filenames if nothing was pressed during drag'n'drop.

I'm not sure I want files to be dragged. First we need some good reason to do that. Sending file by mail is not. Then we need to make that somehow discoverable from the GUI. Especially if we have to different kind of behaviors.

This feature request was for drag&drop of the paths, File objects should be handled as separate feature request, remembering what I wrote above.

    Hello Kimmo,

Sorry, currently I made that when you drag some item from folder
compare view (lets say file c:\bla) and drop it in opened notepad, notepad will open those file. And you want notepad not to open it but print its
    full name (c:\bla).

    Am I right?

    Thank you,
    LX

That was the idea of original feature request.

There is also the security concern - you don't want at least certain file types opened by default. And as we have seen, many file types have had security problems already. So to be on safe side I wouldn't open files using drag&drop. There is specific menu command for user to open file with associated program - when user wants to do that knowingly.
